of the S.S. "Wing Hung" states:

Reference my original statement re smuggling on board the S.S. "Wing Hung", To Ki Chung did not travel on the ship. I am not sure if he knew of the smuggling. I was told by the compradore, Lam, that he advanced money to help the owners meet the interest on the mortgage. I am satisfied that the owner was not Lau Hon Sang but who the real owners were I do not really know. Chan Kau Hi, the supercargo, paid part wages at the end of July and August. The final payment was made at the Kwong on Co., No.48 Connaught Road, Test. Chau Sik Cheung of this company held mortgage on the Wing Hung and the ship formerly belonged to hom. He had nothing to do with the smuggling. Lam Shi Chan, signed on the Articles as compradore. He had also a brother on board in the Compradore department. One of theu spoke English well and I believe was educated in America or Canada. The other did not speak English. I do not know which of the two signed the Articles. I mean I know them both as Lam but do not know their full names. Both travelled on the ship. I do not know where these men lived. Kau Hi signed the Articles as supercargo. He travelled on the ship all the time while I was in command. He appeared to be a compradores assistant. I do not know if he had any set duties. I think he came from Canton to join the ship.
